Mine unfortunately met an early death (can likely be repaired, but I haven''t found the time) when an insert screw snapped and the insert damage the pocket/face of the shear hog itself. I''d probably ship it to someone for the value of my spare inserts if they were interested.

To be fair I work at the company that makes the shearhog, AB Tools, but I wanted to note that the cutter pictured is not the SH100. The SH100 is single flute with a 3/4" shank. Jul 08, 2019· The other ultimate "free cutting" insert mill is Dapra. The RG copies are not as good, I have blown a few up running normal Dapra speeds and feeds. I have managed to break a shear hog, good cutters but not as strong as Dapra. Never managed to break one of those, and not through lack of trying. Good range of insert styles and grinds.
Jul 26, 2016· The ripper mill is impressive in some of the videos I face seen but how does if handle finish cuts? A shear hog with .01 rads is my go to for finishing and holding flatness. How does a ripper mill compare to a shear hog because the price is right for one of them over a shear hog.

Feb 15, 2009· A 4" face mill will get bogged down at high RPM and a deep cut while a 5" will do fine with a lower speed range and lighter cut. Softer material is always easier. A good all around face mill for this machine is a 3" with standard inserts or a 4" with high shear inserts. All my small knee mills have 1", 2", 3" and 4" face mills set up on R8 shanks.

Oct 24, 2016· If you''re gonna use it like a face mill, mostly... Just buy a face mill. ... If you''re using this for aluminum you can get a 1" Shear Hog from AB Tools. They''ve got a 3/4" shank. Can face, profile and even drill in z. Super high removal rates in aluminum and a bunch of insert options from them.
